Others-centered...yes! I just got home from an Africa team meeting where we pondered service and servanthood meanings. We as Americans are very action-oriented...serving = when we do something for someone else, not necessarily focused on relationship or even listening to what the perceived need is. In Duane Elmer's book, Crosscultural Servanthood,the definition of serving was thought provoking: "The Ability to relate to people in such a way that their dignity as human beings is affirmed and they are more empowered to live God-glorifying lives."
